Cherie Dorreen is an education advocate providing advocacy support to students and families, with a particular focus on students with disabilities. Cherie brings to the table her extensive corporate experience providing strategic solutions to the education advocacy space on behalf of the students and families she assists. By utilizing her key negotiation skills in the IEP/504 process she is able to facilitate the acquisition of FAPE with increased communication and greater collaboration between district personnel and families, which includes detailed planning, strategy, and engagement as part of this process.
Cherie cultivates connections with outside providers and school personnel to ensure that the right questions are asked and that families are heard, advocating for their right to being equal participants in the meeting and development process of their child's education plan.
As a parent of two beautifully neuro-diverse children, she has experienced the IEP process. Cherie has walked in their shoes. As such, she can empathize and support parents on a personal level as well. Navigating the complex world of Special Education can be overwhelming, and Cherie brings a resolution mindset to every experience.
Cherie volunteers as a Regional Leader for Decoding Dyslexia CA offering educational talks on Dyslexia to Districts and Parent groups, as well as providing presentations to DDCA support groups that educate parents on the IEP process. In 2023 Cherie was the "maker" of the California State PTA resolution entitled Equitable Literacy for All Students, and led a committee of dedicated parents, educators and advocates to successfully achieve passage of this critical resolution which now provides a statewide advocacy opportunity to advocate for successful literacy achievement for all of California’s students.
